Updates for This Week

Congratulations to all our volleyball teams this week for their hard work playing semi-finals and finals to packed crowds. Both junior teams made it to the semi-finals. Bravo to the Junior Girls’ Volleyball team who won the City Championships this week, defeating William Aberhart 3 to 1! Thanks to all the students, family members, and staff that came out to cheer on our teams.

Drama Production November 28th – December 1st

WCHS Drama in association with MTI present "Mean Girls: The Musical"

November 28th to December 1st at 7pm in the theatre. Tickets are 20$, available for purchase in the theatre lobby at lunch or at the door. Cash/cheque only. General seating, doors open at 6:30pm. Please arrive to be seated before 7pm, latecomers will not be admitted.

Saint Mary’s University (Halifax, N.S.) – A representative from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia will be at Western on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at lunch time (11:50 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) in the main foyer. Students wanting more information about programs, admission requirements, scholarships, and any questions should stop by to speak with him.   

Your Degree at UBC in Calgary – The University of British Columbia will be holding an information session in Calgary on Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Calgary TELUS Convention Centre (136 8 Ave SE). Students and their family can explore program options, interact with UBC students, faculty, and staff, and learn more about UBC. French Immersion and Second Languages Events and Updates

You are invited to attend a presentation on the Belcanfran reciprocal 11 week exchange program and the one month summer exchange program. The presentation will be made by Lise and Ron May who have coordinated reciprocal exchanges in France and Belgium for the past 16 years.

Belcanfran is a NON-FOR-PROFIT reciprocal family exchange between Alberta and France/Belgium that promotes the French language development through a linguistic and cultural immersion within family and school setting. November Scholarship, Bursary, and Financial Assistance Information

The Queen’s Chancellor Scholarship

Applicants to Queens University can be eligible to win the Chancellor’s Scholarship ($48,000) to meet the criteria students must demonstrate: Superior academic abilities, creative and original thinking & proven leadership qualities.

If you meet the criteria and would like to apply, please send a copy of your resume and a 1 page essay demonstrating your creative/original thinking and your leadership qualities to Mme Plante (maplante@cbe.ab.ca) by November 30th 2023.

The Schulich Leader Scholarship.

A Schulich Leader is a student who has been selected by one of 20 partner universities to receive $120,000 or $100,000 to pursue an undergraduate degree in STEM. Burns Memorial Fund:

High School Diploma Preparation Assistance

This program is for students requiring financial assistance with costs related to registering for diploma preparation courses. Please submit applications at least two weeks prior to the course start date.

High School Bursary Program

This program is for Calgary high school students who are within two semesters of graduating from grade 12 and who are at risk of dropping out of school for financial reasons. basic living allowance is provided to assist students in covering expenses such as rent, food and transportation. Attendance and marks are monitored monthly. Students require a referral from their high school counsellor and are interviewed by our grants manager.
