School Message
Hello to our Western families,
As many of you did, our students ‘participated’ in the election this past Monday, via our Student Vote opportunity. As we saw with the country, our school elected a Liberal minority, though the Conservative numbers were much different than we saw for Alberta/Calgary. Regardless of the result, and the fact that our numbers don’t officially count, we certainly believe in the practicality of the exercise as we introduce students to the democratic process. We’ll likely do it again in October for our next provincial election.
With the warmer weather now here, we are finding more jackets, hoodies, and sweaters that have been left behind in classrooms and the cafeteria, and which end up in our lost & found bin. (If your student hasn’t paid attention to where the bin is located, it is in the cross-hallway between the gym and the main office.) While some of these items are reunited with their owners, there are always a surprising number that are truly lost or forgotten. We will keep whatever is there until the end of the school year, and then donate what is left to a charity organization – but the goal, at least for now, is to reduce the number of things that we collect.
Thank you,
Darrin Whitbread, Principal | Western Canada High School

Updates
Diploma Breakfast “Grab and GO!”
This June, we have some amazing parents/alumni who are looking to make a difference in our school. To that end, they are hoping to provide “Grab and Go” breakfast/snacks before exams this June to help fuel our students to success! They are looking for some help with this venture, and that help can come in the form of morning volunteers, donated food items, or cash donations. For more information on how you can help or get involved, please reach out to Bridgette Moore at b.f.moore@shaw.ca
Chicago Auditions
Exciting news! Audition sign-up for the fall drama production of the musical Chicago! is now posted in the drama/band hallway. Auditions are June 11-13 at WCHS. Auditions are open to incoming grade 10 students as well. Please feel free to email drama teacher Caitlin Gallichan-Lowe with any questions: cjgallichanl@cbe.ab.ca
Photo ID – June Exams
Students writing 30-level exams in June who do not have a photo ID are asked to visit the Main Office to pick up their school ID before the end of May. Having photo identification is required on exam days, and picking it up in advance will help prevent delays and ensure a smooth check-in process.
